ASN lookup: Understand networks and routing

An AS number identifies an autonomous system in internet routing. Enter a number with or without AS, such as AS3320 or 3320. For an IP address, start with the IP lookup. An ASN link fills in the form; press Enter or the button to run the query.

Which data does the check show?

RDAP supplies registration information. RIPEstat adds observed prefixes and AS-path neighbours. Registration and routing are different data sources and may have different update times. This display is not a traceroute from Düsseldorf.

Left and right describe positions in observed AS paths. They do not establish a contractual customer, transit or peering relationship. A prefix is an IP network such as 203.0.113.0/24; that example is reserved for documentation and is not a test target. An announced network does not identify an individual person.

Why are names or entries sometimes missing?

Names depend on the available registration and mapping data. Missing names are marked as unavailable. “Show all” opens the entries already loaded; it does not remove the display limits of 100 left, 100 right and 200 uncertain neighbours, and 256 prefixes per address family. Missing sources do not prove that a network is unused.

Read the guide to ASNs, BGP neighbours and prefixes. Use traceroute for an observed path towards a target IP.
