What does the IP converter do?

Why use the decimal/integer form of an IP?

The 32-bit integer form (e.g. 3232235777 for 192.168.1.1) is used in databases, log files and APIs because it lets IP ranges be compared and stored efficiently.

How is an IP converted to binary?

Each of the four octets (0–255) is converted to 8 bits. 192.168.1.1 becomes 11000000.10101000.00000001.00000001 – 32 bits in total.
